eHealth refers to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for promoting, empowering and facilitating health and well-being on a global, regional and country level. This includes, among others, patients’ diagnosis and treatment, conducting research, educating the health workforce, tracking diseases and monitoring public health.
Even though this innovative project relies heavily on ICT, there is more to eHealth than just computerized technology. The decisions that are being made about the healthcare depend also on the high level expertise with which the information is recorded, managed, analysed and transmitted. At the same time, there is a need for fundamental re-thinking of healthcare processes, therefore eHealth represents more a radically new way of working, rather than a specific technology of application.
